In this talk, Elise Joy talks about how important it is to include mentally and physically disabled people in things. Joy, being a deaf person herself, has experienced the world when it still was not totally adjusted for the disabled and the discrimination that can often occur. And even though her talk is more aimed towards encouragement of inventions that help the disabled, I connected it to the encouragement for all things, like jobs and equal treatment. Lennie lived in a time period where being disabled in any way was looked down upon and misunderstood. They did not see the disabled as being on the same level of able bodied/ able minded people. Because of this, it made it harder for them to get jobs or to get the same respect that anyone would expect. However, if they would have just looked past their disabilities, they would see that their conditions don't control them and that including the disabled does more benefits than harm.
